Dr. Byungki Cheong serves as Director of the Indo-Korea Science and Technology Center (IKST) at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST). He is a materials scientist and science and technology policy expert with extensive experience in research, R&D management, science and technology policy, and international scientific cooperation. Dr. Cheong received his B.E. and M.E. degrees in Metallurgy from Seoul National University, Korea, and his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, USA. His research has focused on phase-change electronic materials and thin-film materials engineering. He has authored more than 115 SCI-indexed journal papers and holds 50 patents, several of which have been transferred to industry. Dr. Cheong previously served as President of the Green Technology Center-Korea (GTC-K), a government-funded policy research institute under Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT. Prior to that, he headed the R&D Planning and Coordination Division at KIST, where he oversaw the planning and coordination of institutional R&D programs. He has also provided policy advice to the Korean government on green growth and carbon neutrality and has played an active role in advancing international scientific and technological cooperation. In recognition of his contributions to science and technology, Dr. Cheong was elected to the National Academy of Engineering of Korea in 2018 and has been a member since then.
